The macaron is one of my favorite things in life. The colorful little sandwich with its crunchy crumbly almond crust that melts in the mouth…the first bite disintegrates the delicate composition of the treat, the macaron shatters. One is tempted to consume the entire thing in one bite so a crumb is not missed, but it is so savory…so special that it must be eaten slowly. Atom by atom. The next bite is matched with a silky center that meddles wonderfully with the taste buds… No, there is nothing like the macaron.

If you are in the DC area, make your way to Michel Patisserie or ACKC, you shouldn’t wait any longer to try some of the bakery’s handmade, preservative-free macarons. For the rest of you, be delighted to find these treats within reach of your mail box – the bakery has an online shop.

My favorite of the collection is the caramel à la fleur de sel, a salty caramel so delicious it haunts me.
